Welcome to Ben Reilly's Web

This page was the Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Page. Then I read Peter Parker: Spider-Man # 75. I had known for months that Ben Reilly would probably die in that issue, but I couldn't believe it had actually happened. (Well, I could, but I want to be dramatic here.) I had founded the Friends Of Ben, dedicated to saving Ben Reilly. Now, I dedicate this page to Ben's memory, until he returns and gets his own series, that is.

Why a Ben Reilly page?

Well, there are a few reasons for the alterations. First of all, I made a comics page because I like comics. I hope you won't think less of me for my immaturity, but I find them entertaining. As my youth slowly ebbs from me, I want to get a jump on mid-life crisis. A big jump. If I save smart, I can spend an extra $3 a week on a comic that will (hopefully) appreciate a bit for me. I figure it's cheaper than smoking, anyways.

I made my original Spider-Man page because I like Spider-Man. He is a fun, interesting character, and a worthy fictional hero. As long as I remember not to take him too seriously (my apologies to anyone who thinks dedicating a WWW page to him is taking him too seriously), he's a good role model.

I feel that Ben Reilly got shafted in the comics. Now, I hated him as much as everybody else when I heard that he would be "replacing" Peter Parker as Spider-Man, but I stuck with the titles, and he started to grow on me. He had a great supporting cast, and typical pre-nuptual Spider-Man problems. He reminded me a lot of Peter Parker's bachelor days, in today's comics. Apparently, this is more appreciated in Untold Tales of Spider-Man. Ben was killed by the Green Goblin after the fans complained about the Spider-Switch.

I felt like Spider-Man's now-overwhelming presence on the Web was well-enough established to survive without me. (*Sound of Oddball's head swelling to dangerous proportions*) What that means is, when I set up my FNSP, there were less than a half-a-dozen Spider-Pages out there. Now, there's too many to keep track of (but I tried to on my links page). I could no longer add anything original to my page without finding a better one somewhere else. I just hope I'm the first to make a Ben page...

So, what now?

Well, the efforts of the FOB continue, and I'm just gonna sit back and wait for Ben to get his own series. Will it happen? Probably. Ben left behind a great supporting cast when he bit the (or became the) dust, and a lot of loose ends still need to be tied up. The Spider-fans are sick of clones, and so it might be up to Ben to answer the tough questions. Remember, Spider-Fan, when you're holding Ben Reilly issue #1 in your hot little hands, I called it.
