Godchildren of HM Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother

HM The late Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother had at least thirty-two godchildren*. Here is the list.

* HM The late Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother had twenty-two godchildren, according to an 2002 online Mirror article titled "Young Royals Share £60 Million Fortune", by Jane Kerr. It is sometimes stated in biographies and newspaper and Internet articles that the Duke and Duchess of York (later King George VI and Queen Elizabeth) were godparents to the future Peter II, King of Yugoslavia. This was not the case. The Duke and Duchess of York were present at the christening in Belgrade on 21 October 1923, and although they were known as Koom (godfather) and Koomista (godmother), they were in fact representatives of the Duke's father, King George V. ("The Royal Visit to Serbia", The Times, 18 October 1923) This fact is confirmed by Foreign Office correspondence from R.G. Leigh to Lord Stamfordham (King George V's private secretary), dated 28 January 1929, in which Leigh writes: "You will no doubt remember that on the last occasion, when Prince Tomislav was born, Kennard [British Minister in Belgrade] represented The King as godfather at the christening as it was found that having accepted the position of 'kum' [koom] when the first prince was born [the future King Peter II], His Majesty was expected to be godfather on all subsequent similar occasions, in accordance with the somewhat exacting custom of the country." Godchildren of Diana, Princess of Wales

The late Diana, Princess of Wales had seventeen godchildren*. Here is the complete list.

* The list of Diana's godchildren appeared in an article titled "The Chosen Ones", by Jason Cowley in The Times, 3 February 1997 (pp 16-17). An edited version of this article (also titled "The Chosen Ones") was later featured in the July 1997 issue of Majesty magazine (Vol. 18, No. 7, pp 16-20).

Diana's last Will and Testament (dated 1 June 1993, and made public 2 March 1998) identified her godchildren, "whose names appear in Part II of Appendix I". It is interesting to note that, in this Part II, the first 16 godchildren are listed in alphabetical order (from Master Jack Bartholomew to The Lady Mary Wellesley), while the 17th godchild (Miss Domenica Lawson) is listed last. The reason for this is presumably because Domenica, who was the last of Diana's godchildren, was born after the  Princess made her will in 1993.
