Books about Queen
Victoria, Her Family, and Her Descendants
Copyright © 2001-2002 by Yvonne Demoskoff
AUTHOR’S NOTE
This document is a listing of English-language
books written about Queen Victoria, her family, and her descendants, as well as
books authored by the Queen and some of her descendants. It was created for
those who want to know if a book exists of their favorite royal or
royal-related descendant of Queen Victoria, or if a particular type of book
exists of Queen Victoria.
It is a subjective list, and it is
not an exhaustive list. It includes currently available books, as well as out
of print books. Most of the books are biographies and memoirs, but there are
also general, genealogical and reference works.
I have attempted to
provide at least one biography for as many as possible of Queen Victoria
and her descendants. (Queen Victoria is treated as a special case: there
are six categories of books listed for her, featuring over one hundred
titles, including twenty-six biographies.) If a person’s name is not found in this list,
it is because I do not know of a biography for this individual, or that
there isn’t any English-language biography about this person. If the interested
reader knows that there is in fact a biography (or that the royal person has
authored a book), would he or she please let me know by sending an email at royalty@telus.net
There are four main topics: Royal
Persons (shown in mostly alphabetical order by title of individual, and
contains mostly biographical works), Royal Authors (non-biographical works
written by royals), Royal Homes, and Miscellaneous.
The format shown for each book is:
title, author, and year of publication. Reprint editions and alternate titles
are shown, when known, and some commentaries are included.
An asterix (*) next to a name
indicates that this individual has written (with or without a co-author),
illustrated, or designed a book other than a biography. See ‘Royal Authors’ for
examples of his or her work.
Please note: the books in this list
are not available for purchase or rental from the author of this document.
However, most of these books can be borrowed at or through public or college
and university libraries. Alternatively, a great many of these books can be
purchased from various online booksellers.
