HERITAGE INTERPRETATION LINKS
Here are some great links that I have discovered while cruising the net. I hope you enjoy them as much as I have.
Try your hand at the
Canadian History Trivia Quiz, produced by the History Department of the University of Saskatchewan, in Saskatoon.
Or check out what happened on
This Day In History, brought to you by the HISTORY CHANNEL,
or try this one from Sympatico NewsExpress Today in History,
or the Parks Canada site - This Week In History.
Preserving our cultural heritage is an important step in maintaining a sense of who we are, but we also need to preserve the natural environment, to give us a greater context for the world we live in as a whole. Man is naught but a late-comer to this globe, and we must attempt to live in harmony with all other living things. The following organizations are focussed on helping to preserve our natural heritage.
Some of my favourite sites for parks and museums are:
- the British Columbia Museums Association;
- curriculum papers about the Sto:lo Nation;
- the Royal British Columbia Museum in
Victoria, BC;
- the British Columbia History World Wide Web Page;
- The Cariboo Sentinel with news about Barkerville and Cariboo gold rush of the 1860's;
- Try a visit to Historic Fort Steele;
- looking for documents on Canadian history, try The CanText Library, offered by Ottawa Researchers;
- or check out the images in the CanPix Gallery, also by Ottawa Researchers;
- the digital collection of the Hudson's Bay Company, offered by the Museum of Man and Nature in Winnipeg, MB;
- the Hudson's Bay Company Archives new site;
- and the Hudson's Bay Company's own site;
- the NorthWest Brigade Club, and visit their publication, the
NorthWest Journal;
- Fort Edmonton, located in (where else?)
Edmonton, AB;
- the Glenbow Museum in the Oil Capital of Western Canada,
Calgary, AB;
- the Canadian Museum of Civilization in
Ottawa, ON;
- the Royal Ontario Museum (ROM);
- visit Park Rangers/Interpreters on the Web;
- Colonial Williamsburg;
- Old Sturbridge Village;
- the Shelburne Museum, in Shelburne, VT;
- the Smithsonian Institution, and its many branches;
- the U S National Park Service, including places like the
