Genealogy

One of my principal pursuits over the past several years is trying to trace not only my ancestors but my many "cousins" around the world who are descended from my great-grandparents, Jacob and Mary Mitchell. It is now clear that my MITCHELL ancestors used to bear the surname MITCHELSON. Why it was changed to Mitchell remains a mystery.

Great-grandfather JACOB MITCHELSON (1813-1886) had at least 10 children. Three of them emigrated from Scotland to New Zealand in the 1860's while the remainder chose to stay in Bonnie Scotland - at least for a time!
