Agnes Muir was only 5 years old when her parents brought her to New Zealand. The Muir family correspondence includes letters written by Agnes to her grandparents in Scotland. The last two were written from New Street, following her marriage to John Phinn. Prior to her marriage, Agnes and her sister Lizzie were in service with a Professor McGregor, and in fact Agnes was married from there on her 22nd birthday.
