First Year 1949
Start Spreading the news
We've Chosen the Day
It was a very good year for small town girls -
and boys. Chocolate and sweetie rationing had just ended, at
least five Troon shops sold Marr College blazers and gym slips,
there were three picture houses but there were only two primary
schools, Barassie Street and Saint Patricks plus Miss Hunters.
The boys still in Scotland get their State Pensions and bus passes this year, the girls already have theirs, so when Isobel Kynoch (Haggart), Iain Goldie and Cathy Narcisi (McColl) were making one cup of coffee last 2 hours, and encouraged by Andrew Cousar and Ann Holden (Taylor) in Troon and Irene Mitchell in Canada, it was decided to have a light-hearted get-together in The South Beach Hotel on Friday the 12th July, 2002.
Classmates and their families are spread all over the world now and the idea of the early announcement is to allow ex-pats to plan their next visits to Troon around the date and for everyone to tell their old school friends. We already have a list of more than 70 names, we would like a lot more but we don't need any commitment until much nearer the time.
49'ers would all have left Marr by 1956 but we do hope you'll come back to the South Beach this year and bring, photographs, magazines, your memories and your classmates. If you would like more information, if you know (or would like) contact addresses for friends or just to register your interest, please contact any of the above or Iain Goldie at iain.goldie@virgin.net
