How Exchange Libraries Work

Typically an exchange library for travelers involves bringing in a book you've finished reading and exchanging it for one you'd like to read.

The International Traveler's English Exchange Library is no different. You bring your paperback book in good condition and take a book which you want. A small fee may be charged for the exchange in countries where English books are costly and scarce. In our listings of sites we will report the conditions of exchange.

If a library is wanting to increase its collection or to replace older volumes, an alternate exchange may be offered in which several used books may be exchanged for one un-read one with no fee attached.

Anyone with surplus books in good condition will likely be considered a saint by any library if they offer to deliver their surplus books without charge to one of these sites. It is suggested, however, that contact is made before arranging for any shipment to confirm that your gift would be received without problems. Some countries may levy high charges on anything being sent in from the outside regardless of whether they are declared as gifts or not.
